Concert Band 2005-2006
With experience departing and a new crop taking shape, the 2005-06 Concert Band went through many trials and became a
force to be rekoned with. The B-U Concert Band performed two concerts throughout the year, and also played at the Region
VII band festival. Our mid-winter concert included Alfred Reed's A Festival Prelude, Jay Dawson's Amazing Grace
with our amazing bagpipist Mr. Craig Presar, concluding with Joy by Joseph Curiale and Coat of Arms by George
Kenny. Although we were not as successful as last year, we still scored a I and two II rankings at the Regional Band Festival.
We open with Amparito Rocaby Jamie Texidor. Our two adjudicated pieces were A Festival Prelude and The Roman
Carnival Overture by Berlioz. Along with our festival tunes, our spring concert also consisted of Second American
Folk Rhapsody by Clare Grundman, and "Folk Songs from Somerset" from Folk Song Suite for Military Band by Ralph
Vaughan-Williams
Concert Band 2004-2005
The 2005 Concert Band undertook many challenges on it's long road to attaining Superior Ratings
at the Region VII Band Festival this year. We began the season with our Christmas concert, consisting of American
Folk Rhapsody by Clare Grundman, Brighton Beach Concert March by William Langham, and the traditonal
Up on a Housetop. Our Mid-Winter Concert consisted of First Suite in Eb for Military Band by Gustav
Holst, The Silent Hills Of My Childhood by George Farmer, and Moorside March from Moorside Suite
by Gustav Holst. The band enjoyed fun and success in festival by playing Pageant by Vincent Persichetti, and
Concert Variations by Claude T. Smith.
Concert Band 2003-2004
During Concert Season 2004, the B-U Band embarked on preparation for our trip to
Myrtle Beach for adjudication at the North American Music Festivals, as well as preparing for the Region VII Band Festival
in Elkins, and our Spring Concert in May. Our adjudicated selections include Emperata Overture by Claude Smith, and
Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance. Other songs we played this year include Jupiter
and Mars from Holst's Planets, Holst's First Suite in E-flat for Military Band, An Irish Rhapsody by
Clare Grundman, and Kanawha to Main composed by former B-UJHS band director, the late Mr. Richard Lawson. We recieved
excellent ratings on our Myrle Beach trip, and recieved I,I,II ratings at Regional Band Festival.
For our Christmas concert, the B-U Band performed Pachinko, American Folk Rhapsody
No. 3, Sleigh Ride, and Santa's Parade. Both the Winter and Spring Concerts were held in the BUHS Auditorium.
Concert Band 2002-2003
During Concert Season 2003, the Buckhannon-Upshur Band has recieved Superior ratings at
WVSSAC Region VII Band Festival and Music in the Parks, an adjudicated event in West Mifflin, PA. At Band Festival, we
performed these three selections: "Bandology" Concert March, "An American Suite" Movements I and II, and "A
Festival Prelude". Tunes that we performed at Spring Concert included the three tunes above and these other selections:
"Irish Tune from County Derry" and "The Great American March". For our final recital for the 2002-2003 Concert
Band, we traveled to Kennywood Park. Our two adjudicated selections are "Festivo" and "A Festival Prelude".
Our first concert, held December 10th at BUHS Auditorium, included these songs: "Bossa Nova Holliday",
"Christmas Music for Winds", and "Second American Folk Rhapsody".
